Injury Updates (Sep 23)

Fringe draft-worthy forward Devin Setoguchi suffered a lower-body injury, presumably in Sunday night's preseason opener against the Edmonton Oilers and is now considered to be day-to-day. Setoguchi was an unrestricted free agent signing in the off-season and scored 27 points in 75 games for the Jets last season.  I currently have him projected at 25 points for the 2015 season and I don't think a minor injury in training camp is going to affect that number, yet.

It sounds like there will be a few days off for veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar, as he sits with an ear laceration.  There were no details about how the injury occurred, so that's anyone's guess... puck?  Stick?  Punch?  Nevertheless, the Twitter reports are saying that he is going to sit for a few days, so that will keep him out of some preseason action and some practices, but I don't think that will be a big issue for the 40-year old.

The Detroit Red Wings didn't have much luck in Pittsburgh on Monday night, as Pavel Datsyuk was lost to an apparent shoulder injury and Darren Helm suffered a broken nose. Neither player was on the ice on Tuesday morning with the club, but there wasn't an immediate word on how much time they may miss.  I have Datsyuk poised to have a big year in my projections, assuming that he stays healthy, while Helm is more of a fringe player, who could benefit, if injuries were to mount again in Detroit.

Training camp for Lightning rookie Jonathan Drouin has come to an abrupt end, as his upper-body injury has been diagnosed as a fractured thumb and the team expects him to miss the next 3-to-4 weeks with the injury.  With the regular season kicking off in two weeks, Drouin is now expected to miss the first week or two of the season, assuming that his spot is a lock on the team.  This will provide quite the quandary for us poolies, as his fate may not be decided in time for the draft on Saturday.

Another fringe injury, this time in Nashville, as Viktor Stalberg, who I have projected for 25 points, left practice on Monday with a lower-body injury.  There are no more details, other than he couldn't put any weight on his right leg and he was helped off the ice.  He will be listed as out day-to-day with a lower-body injury, if you had any inkling that he could have been a reasonable sleeper.
