Deslauriers on Waivers

It appears that the Edmonton Oilers goaltending situation has been sorted out for the time being with the decision to place Jeff Deslauriers on waivers for the purpose of sending him down to the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL.

The Oilers have been running with a 3-goalie system since the start of the season, having the most speculated reason to keep three goalies was the fear of possibly losing one of them through waivers when the final decision was made.

With all of that being said, Devan Dubnyk has now won the job of being Nikolai Khabibulin's back-up with the big club and it will be interesting to see if Deslauriers gets picked up by another team now or possibly gets swooped up at half the cost, if the Oilers are forced to bring him back up for whatever reason.

Deslauriers had not figured into any action in the Oilers net this season, despite being the back-up on a number of occasions for either Khabibulin or Dubnyk.

ImplicationsUnfortunately for the sheet pool, Deslauriers was my bet to win the job as Khabibulin's back-up, so we have another player struck from the list of players available.  I don't believe anyone had taken Deslauriers in the pool and it is now advised that you don't trade for him now.
