The Blue Jackets did not keep Mike Commodore around for very long in the 2011 season, burying him in the minors for the better part of the season. The rugged defenseman had the last two years of his deal bought out after clearing unconditional waivers on Friday. Mike Commodore buyout from CapGeek.com

The Edmonton Oilers also bought out a defenseman that was buried in the minors during the 2011 season, Sheldon Souray did not see any action in the year and the last year of his deal was bought out, making him into an unrestricted free agent for the silly season.Sheldon Souray buyout from CapGeek.com

The Minnesota Wild bought out defenseman Cam Barker, buying out the last year of his deal. Barker did not impress the Wild brass in 2011, only picking up 5 points in 52 games in 2011, so his talents will be taken elsewhere this Summer.Cam Barker buyout from CapGeek.com

It finally happened! The return of Jaromir Jagr to the NHL is now complete, as the 39-year old Czech winger has signed a 1-year, $3.3 million deal with the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.
Jagr's numbers over in the KHL were not stellar, nor were they great three years ago, when he left the NHL. The pundit expectations on TSN were thinking that he'll still be a 60-point player in today's game, but that really remains to be seen.

Smith fell to the way side in Tampa Bay, where Dwayne Roloson really stepped up and took the number one job away, but Smith will get a solid shot (as of right now) to take the Coyotes number one job and run with it.
Theodore made 32 appearances for the Wild in the 2011 season, playing behind Niklas Backstrom, picking up a record of 15-11-3 with 1 shutout, giving him 32 points in the regular season. That was good enough to be 34th among all goalies, considered as one of the better back-up goalies for the hockey pools.
Eager spent the 2011 season with the San Jose Sharks, playing in 68 games, scoring 7 goals and 10 assists in a bottom six role. Eager's real value, if it counts in your pool, is penalty minutes, where Eager finished 31st in the league with 120 PIM and he should be counted on to possibly do a little bit more of the pugilism while protecting the team's valuable youth.

Garon made 36 appearances with the Blue Jackets in 2011, winning 10, 3 by shutout and adding an assist for 27 points in the pool, good enough for 40th among all goalies. Garon should provide ample support for Roloson in Tampa Bay, also should make good use of the number of starts he should get behind an ageing veteran.
In 2011, Greene had an okay year, scoring 4 goals and 19 assists in all 82 games, ranking him 74th among blueliners, which is pretty good considering how awful the Devils offense was in the first half of the season.

With Salo on board, the Canucks now have 18 players signed (eight forwards, eight defense and two goalies) for only $53.4 million, giving them about $10 million for the remaining forwards on on their roster. Of course, with Salo on board, there is a good chance that a defenseman may shift off the team table, but we'll get to that when more things happen.

Ericsson has developed into a fairly steady blueliner for the Red Wings, not quite an offensive force to boast about (3 goals and 12 assists in 74 games), but he'll give Detroit upwards of 24 minutes of ice-time a game and he was a plus player in the regular season (+8), which suggests that he is fairly responsible over the whole of the season.
