After Sunday night's games, all pool teams will now show their points and how many players they have remaing. Teams are starting to get eliminated now, so it's best if you know that you have more (or less) players than your rivals.

Well, there's only one sweep in the first round and it's the New Jersey Devils taking the broom to the New York Rangers after a 4-2 win. Martin Brodeur picked up his 10th point in the win for the Devils making 31 saves. Brian Gionta's shorthanded marker early in the third counted as the winning goal for the Devils, so he finished with two points in the clincher. Patrik Elias scored two and added an assist for three points and Scott Gomez had a goal and an assist as well for the Devils. The Devils may have quite a while to wait to see who they are going to play against in the second round. For the Rangers today, Steve Rucchin's late third period goal was the only point for the Rangers today. Jaromir Jagr left the game after his first shift after apparently aggrevating his shoulder injury that he picked up in the first game. Combined for the series, the Rangers scored a total of 5 points for the pool.
The eliminated players with points are as follows:
Peter Prucha, 1G
Steve Rucchin, 1G
Jaromir Jagr, 1A
Marek Malik, 1A
Michael Nylander, 1A

The champions have been knocked off! Ray Emery, the first rookie goaltender to win a series since Brian Boucher in 2000, took all four games himself and added an assist in the process to defeat the Lightning in five games. Wade Redden and Dany Heatley each had 2 assists last night, while Peter Schaefer, Andrej Meszaros and Martin Havlat scored for the Sens. Havlat, a non-pool pick, eventually got the winner in the 3-2 decision. For the Lightning, the lack of picks as a whole was a decent indication that no one had any faith that the champs would do anything again. They weren't really much of a team, I thought, anyways. In the last game of the series, Brad Richards scored a goal and Cory Sarich, Vincent Lecavalier and Dan Boyle all had assists. At least for the Lightning, they actually scored some goals in their series, so a few of the picks actually generated some points for the five games that they were in.
The eliminated players with points are as follows:
Brad Richards, 3G 5A
Martin St. Louis, 4G 1GWG
Dan Boyle, 1G 3A
Vincent Lecavalier, 1G 3A
Pavel Kubina, 1G 1A
Vaclav Prospal, 2A
John Grahame, 1W
Daryl Sydor, 1A
Cory Sarich, 1A

The Edmonton Oilers went into Detroit and stole a game from the Red Wings to take a 3-2 lead in the series Saturday afternoon. Chris Pronger had 3 assists and Dwayne Roloson had the win, as the only two multi-point players in the game. The Oilers will now go home to try and finish the Red Wings off on Monday night. An Oilers series win would be devasting for most pool teams as more often than not, there are teams with at least a pair of Red Wings on their teams and not a lot of Oilers picked. The Red Wings got goals from Brendan Shanahan and Henrik Zetterberg with assists coming from Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom.
To put the devasatation in perspective, the most popular Red Wings, Nicklas Lidstrom and Brendan Shanahan were picked 23 (out of 39) times in the pool... while the most popular Oiler, Sergei Samsonov, was picked only 3 times.

The Flames decided to outclass the Ducks last night in their 3-2 win in Calgary Saturday night. A flat-footed Anaheim team just couldn't muster any offense until late in the final frame when there were a couple powerplay goals scored. Miikka Kiprusoff made 26 saves in the game last night with his shutout being broken halfway through the third. For Kipper, that his 3rd win of the playoffs. Jarome Iginla scored two goals, including the winner, Tony Amonte scored the other Flames goal, Daymond Langkow had 2 assists and Matthew Lombardi, Kristian Huselius & Roman Hamrlik all had assists as well. For the Ducks, Rob Niedermayer scored the only pool-counting goal and Teemu Selanne had the only pool-counting assist in the game.
Game 6 will go at the pond in Anaheim on Monday, where the Flames will have the chance to eliminate the Ducks once and for all.

If you picked some Dallas Stars, you were hoping for a Game 5. Marty Turco made 22 saves in Dallas' 4-1 win against the Avalanche on Friday night to pull one game back and ensure that they played one more in Dallas. Sergei Zubov had 3 assists in the win and Jere Lehtinen had a goal and an assist to count for the pool as well. The Colorado goal didn't count any points in the pool, much to the chagrin of those Avalanche supporters.
The eye of the storm hit the Bell Centre and there was nothing calm about it. Cam Ward's 23 saves was enough to earn the 'Canes a win on Friday night. Ward has seemingly replaced Martin Gerber in net for Carolina, which hurts the 6 teams who had picked Gerber instead of another East goalie who is actually getting points. Justin Williams had a goal and an assist to be the top scoring Cane forward against Montreal. Aaron Ward potted his first of the post-season, while Eric Staal, Doug Weight, Cory Stillman and Mark Recchi all had assists as well. There was only one counter goal for the Habs and it was Sheldon Souray's 2nd of the post-season from Alexei Kovalev and Mike Ribeiro. Rod Brind'Amour scored the winner, so no bonus point there.
Peter Forsberg gained a share of the pool lead in points last night as he scored a pair of goals (including the winner) and added an assist as the Flyers squeaked by the Sabres 5-4. Robert Esche won his second game of the series as the Flyers have tied it back up at 2 games a piece going into the weekend. Eric Desjardins had a goal and an assist and Joni Pitkanen had 2 assists for the Flyers as well. Daniel Briere had 2 goals, Ales Kotalikhad 2 assists and Chris Drury had an assist for the Sabres in the loss.

Vesa Toskala won his third game of the series and Patrick Marleau had his third career post-season hat-trick (including the winner) last night as the Sharks took a 3-1 series lead last night in a 5-4 win. Joe Thornton, Tom Preissing & Christian Ehrhoff each had assists for the Sharks in the win. Paul Kariya had a goal and an assist for the Predators. Mike Sillinger had a goal, Steve Sullivan, Kimmo Timonen, David Legwand and Dan Hamhuis all had assists as well. Both teams will head back to Nashville for a Sunday evening game.
