Sheet Player News (Jan 1)

With the return of Cory Stillman to the line-up from back spasms, the Florida Panthers have waived Box 20 forward Steve Reinprecht to possibly open up some space on their roster, either by a waiver claim or a demotion. Reinprecht has turned out to be a bit of an offensive bust for the Panthers, but with some injury problems, they've needed to keep him in the line-up. He is still at an age where he can be demoted and his cap hit will come off the books.

Another addition to another hockey family meant that Jack Hillen was a healthy scratch against the Red Wings on Friday night, as his family expanded by one member this weekend. The Box 28 defenseman isn't much for the offense, but he was added to the sheet pool because of the lack of depth on Long Island.

With Jason Spezza hitting the Long Term Injury Reserve with his shoulder injury, the Senators have opened up some cap space for at least the next 10 games, which means they have a little more flexibility with their line-up for call-ups from the minors. Unfortunately for some, this means that there are players that can be called up to take their place, because of poor play of late.  The first victims of this new idea... Box 27 defenseman Filip Kuba and non-pool forward Jarkko Ruutu.  Neither were dressed for the New Year's Eve match-up against the Blue Jackets and it sounds like neither will get to go against the Maple Leafs on Saturday night either.
