The New York Islanders have sewn up their goaltender for the 2015 season, as almost three weeks from the day they acquired the rights to Jaroslav Halak, the team was able to sign him to a new 4-year deal, worth $18 million.
In the 2014 season, between St. Louis, Buffalo and Washington, Halak finished 36th overall in pool scoring with 29 wins, 5 shutouts and 1 assist for 69 points. That placed him 13th overall for goalies in pool scoring, coming ahead of the likes of former teammate Brian Elliott and the guy who replaced him in St. Louis, Ryan Miller.
Halak will also see a raise in his annual cap hit, as his dent was $3.75 million in the 2013 season and it now goes up to $4.5 million for the next four years.
The pool outlooks for each NHL team will be released in the coming days and with the Islanders' look, we'll touch quite a bit on Halak, so stay tuned!
