The Phoenix Coyotes have re-signed former 1st round pick (2008, 28th overall) Viktor Tikhonov to a new 1-year, two-way deal on Wednesday, reportedly worth $827,000 at the NHL level.Tikhonov has been a long-term project for the Coyotes since his draft, playing in 61 games in the 2009 season, picking up 16 points and since then has split time between the KHL and the AHL. Last season with the San Antonio Rampage, Tikhonov played in 60 games and picked up 10 goals and 33 points, which is a step in the right direction.
I can't say that I have high hopes for the youngster, but he will get another shot at making the team in training camp, which has the potential of being his last shot with the Coyotes. A few years and a number of draft picks since, the Coyotes may have this kid on a short leash.
