There has been more injury talk then there has been trades to start Trade Deadline Day, but this one may signal some deals coming out of Winnipeg, as the Jets are now likely not going to have forward Mark Scheifele for the rest of the regular season and some of the playoffs, if they indeed make it.
Scheifele suffered a knee injury in Tuesday night's game against the Islanders and the results of the MRI are suggesting that he suffered some MCL damage, which will keep him out of the line-up for 6-to-8 weeks. Given that there is less than six weeks to go in the regular season, means that it will be a push to get him ready for the playoffs, if they can sneak into that wild card spot.
In 63 games for the Jets, Scheifele scored 13 goals and added 21 assists for 34 points, which after Tuesday night's action leaves him in 151st spot in the pool scoring rankings, the highest spot that he'll finish now.
Overall, it was a good season for the still-rookie forward in Winnipeg, a season he can really build on. The team can be confident that they can build around him to a certain degree, as he has proven that he will be a valuable piece of this line-up for a while. It is just too bad that his season was cut short to injury.
As it was mentioned earlier in the day, Scheifele belongs to Wes in the pool, who now sits with two major knee injuries on his active roster and there is a chance that 15th place will be the highest point he'll reach before the end of the season, the spot that he is in right now. Wes has a 10-point gap between his team and 16th place, but is now losing projected games to be played with this injury.
Wes wasn't really in the mix for the third segment race, as his side has only found 95 points thus far, well behind Allan's 118 points, that leads the race.
