The Edmonton Oilers have finally parted ways with veteran Czech forward Ales Hemsky, as they acquired two mid-round picks in 2014 & 2015 from the Ottawa Senators.
The Oilers continue their arduous rebuilding process getting a 5th round and a 3rd round pick in those years, respectively, for a player that has been with the team for 10 years, but hasn't been the guy that they always hoped he would be.
In the 2014 season, Hemsky has only scored 9 goals and 17 assists in 55 games for an underachieving Oilers team, but the Senators are probably in the school of thought that he could really use a change of scenery, which he'll get in spades.
Hemsky scored a pair of goals against his new team the night before the deal, which brought his pool scoring ranking up to 236th overall, well down from a lot of expectations... but you can say that about the whole team.
If Hemsky can play with a guy like Jason Spezza in Ottawa, or even a Bobby Ryan, not to mention an Erik Karlsson, his numbers should be going up, in theory. This is good news for Brenda, who is right in the mix for the prizes.
Assuming Hemsky can stay healthy down the stretch here, Brenda, who is only 8 points out of 4th place in 10th place, could likely get a huge boost in this deal. This deal's optics for Brenda is very positive.
