Rangers are Done

The Rangers look like they have enough to do a lot of damage... on paper that is. With plenty of scoring up front, a mix of mobility and responsibility on the blueline and a starting goaltender that ranks amongst the top goalies in the league... you would think the Rangers could end up being a Cup favourite going into the season.

The Rangers finished the preseason with a record of 3-2-1, which is very unassuming. The bright spots for the blueshirts will be the likes of Marc Staal and Ryan Callahan. Drury and Gomez will have to earn their keep with a big season, but with wingers like Jagr and Shanahan, you don't think it will be very difficult.

Now, by my calculations, the Rangers are now listed with a roster that overflows the salary cap maximum. Their figure lies at about $51.6 million, which shouldn't be a big deal to lower through the year, but it does bring some sort of concern to the management, as they won't be allowed to carry that number for too long.
