Kobasew Inks Up

Good news out of Beantown on Tuesday. They managed to sign on one of their top restricted free agents before the summer officially started. They managed to get Chuck Kobasew under contract for the next three seasons for $7 million over the duration. His salary works out to be $2 million for the first year and then $2.5 million for the last two seasons, but his cap hit will be $2.333 million over the deal.

Kobasew finished the season with 39 points (22G, 17A) in 73 games for the Bruins last season. He has given the Bruins a lot of good minutes in his tenure with the team and is now being rewarded for it going into the next few seasons.

With the Kobasew signing, the Bruins have now increased their potential active roster to 18 players worth an estimated cap hit of $44.5 million. Their main goal going into the Free Agent Frenzy does look more like they'll be going after defensemen with reckless abandon. Stay tuned for the Sherpa's mock draft... they may have themselves a defenseman waiting in the wings come June 20th as well.
