Draft Player News (Mar. 18)

The St. Louis Blues received quite the scare on Saturday night, as their captain, David Backes, left the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd period after taking a shot to the foot. The post-game word from the team is that he is considered day-to-day and it isn't quite as bad as they had initially had feared. Backes will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours or so to reveal the exact extent of the injury and if it is only a bruise, it could only be a few days on the shelf.

Tough injury for Niesa S., who now sits 23 points out of the money in 9th place with only a few weeks left to go in the regular season.  The gap is not impossible to overcome, especially after some of Allan's weeks in recent memory, but it would definitely be tough to achieve.

The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Braden Holtby from Hershey of the AHL on Sunday and they will expect him to back-up Michal Neuvirth for their game against the Blackhawks on Sunday evening.  Tomas Vokoun was not on the ice for any of the pre-game warm-ups on Sunday morning, so the recall has necessary, as it appears that the lower-body injury that Vokoun was dealing with earlier in the season has popped up again.  We'll consider him day-to-day for right now.

This isn't what Leon G. wanted to hear, as he is the runaway leader (of sorts) for the Basement Dweller of the Week nod in the newsletter with only 6 points this week.  Leon has now dropped down to 18th spot in the standings and isn't exactly safe there, especially if his team continues to struggle.
