It appears that reinjuring his knee was far more substantial than not, as Robby Fabbri of the St. Louis Blues now has to look forward to an entire season on the sidelines, as his surgically repaired knee sustained far too much damage earlier this week against the Dallas Stars and it will cost him the entire 2018 campaign.The offensive talent that Fabbri has shown in the last couple of years is quite remarkable and it was only a matter of time before he could find himself 100% healthy for a season and show us all what he can do with that many games. Unfortunately for him and for us, it won't be this season.
The Hockey News had him pegged for a 50-point year, I had him a shade underneath that and I have seen the Sports Forecasters pool guide and they were saying 47 points, so we were all in close agreement, that Fabbri was going to be a very worthy player this season.
Looking forward though, the Blues still have a ton of young talent in camp after some significant cuts today, including their last two 1st round draft picks, Tage Thompson from 2016 and Klim Kostin from this year's draft. Neither will have the early experience that Fabbri has, but they both have shown enough flash to stick around with a week to go before the season starts.
The Florida Panthers trimmed their preseason roster down to 29 players on Wednesday morning and among that group was Jayce Hawryluk, who was on some of my early projected rosters. Hawryluk was thought to be one of the long-term prospects that would possibly get a good look this year, but his look ended a bit too early, but leaves some interesting players behind in camp.
In Philadelphia, one of their key NCAA signings from late last season hasn't quite made the cut this year, as Mike Vecchione has been sent down to the AHL on Wednesday, adding to the belief that Nolan Patrick is going to be on the opening night roster for the Flyers. Vecchione saw two games with the Flyers at the end of last season and hasn't quite lifted his stock up enough in this preseason, obviously, to warrant a longer look. His initial projections will take a hit to call-up levels, while others may slowly creep upwards.
The St. Louis Blues made a good number of cuts on Wednesday as well, including a pair of impressive young rookies, heading back to junior, in Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas. Both were very impressive on the scoresheet for the Blues in this preseason, but more seasoning was obviously on the docket with a pretty deep squad, as it is in St. Louis.
The Los Angeles goaltending situation appears to have gotten much clearer on Wednesday, as Jeff Zatkoff was demoted to the AHL, leaving Darcy Kuemper to be the favourite for the back-up job this year behind Jonathan Quick. Zatkoff was the incumbent for the position, but that wasn't enough in the end and now his projected 15 points head over to Kuemper for draft day this weekend.
The Columbus Blue Jackets welcomed the St. Louis Blues to town for a preseason romp and saw them off with a 5-2 thumping on Tuesday night. Joonas Korpisalo was the winning goalie on the night, making only 19 stops against a fairly young Blues side, which was definitely auditioning for some of those last few bubble spots.
There does appear to be a fire lit underneath Kari Lehtonen in this preseason, as this is back-to-back starts for him that have gone very well, but I must remind you... it is the preseason. Last night's game came against an auditioning bunch of Wild players in Dallas and it didn't seem to go too well for them, losing 4-1. Lehtonen made 32 saves for the win and may have started to creep a little bit of doubt into the opening night starter for Dallas.
Finally, the homecoming for the Vegas Golden Knights, their first game in the T-Mobile Arena, didn't go quite as well as they would have hoped, running into Jack Campbell and the Los Angeles Kings for their first game, losing the game 3-2 in overtime. Campbell was the only notable player in the game, making 27 saves, beating the Knights back-up, Calvin Pickard for the honour.
Okay, so maybe the Penguins goalie situation wasn't quite as complicated as I thought it might have been, as Tristan Jarry was among 21 players either sent down to the minors or put on waivers to be sent down to the minors on Tuesday. His projected points have now been moved over to Antti Niemi's totals, as he will be the number two guy to start the season, playing behind Matt Murray.
Goaltender Louis Domingue was supposed to get the full game between his Coyotes and the visiting Ducks in Tuscon last night, but an upper-body injury forced him from the game in the 2nd period and the Coyotes opted to keep him out for precautionary reasons. Domingue took a shot off the mask in the 2nd period and may have been rattled, but there was no immediate word after the game on the injury, but being held out for precautionary reasons does sort of suggest that Domingue may have been able to return to the game, if needed. He'll be listed as day-to-day until a further update comes.
A lower-body injury took Winnipeg's Adam Lowry out of the game against Calgary on Monday night. The coaching staff are prepared to give Lowry a couple days off, by the sound of things, but they don't suspect that the injury is too significant, not elaborating on it at all. 
Jake McCabe has a solid chance at being a steady defenseman for the Buffalo Sabres this season and that could translate into being a pool worthy player this year, but he'll have to get over a significant upper-body injury, which the Sabres are initially calling week-to-week for his timetable. The Buffalo coaching staff have been quoted as saying that they won't count him out for the season opener just yet, but if he's going to be reevaluated on a weekly basis, that doesn't bode very well for him. Keep an eye on this one, if you're looking for a late round defenseman.
Sunday night was Hockeyville USA, Monday night saw Hockeyville Canada on Prince Edward Island and the good folks of Summerside were there to watch an absolute slaughtering, the Devils thumping the Senators, 8-1.
Patrice Bergeron made his preseason debut on Monday night to a goal and an assist and the Bruins big RFA signing recently, David Pastrnak did exactly the same, as Boston topped Chicago, 4-2, in preseason action. Malcolm Subban, who is battling for a backup spot, played the whole game and made 24 saves for the win, rounding out the Bruins notable players on the night.
The goaltending debate might just rage on in Brooklyn this season, as Thomas Greiss made 25 saves against the second half of a New Jersey split squad, earning a preseason shutout in a 3-0 win. Trying to take the opponent and the timing into consideration, this is still a pretty good feather in his cap in this preseason and it could be a pretty reasonable split with Jaroslav Halak this season.
The Maple Leafs kept the Canadiens winless in this preseason with a 5-1 win on Monday night, playing at the Marlies barn yet again. Frederik Andersen got the nod for the whole game and he had to make 22 saves to get the win last night. It was a big game for Auston Matthews, who was out to show that there will be no jinx this season, picking up a hat-trick and an assist for a 4-point night. William Nylander is in the same boat and he was able to tally a goal and an assist as well, helping his cause.
It was supposed to be about the new starter for Carolina, Scott Darling, getting a good test for his first full game against a strong Oilers team on Monday night, but the Hurricanes offense ripped through and put six goals up on the board in a 6-2 win, Darling making 19 saves for the win. Jordan Staal and Janne Kuokkanen were the top two for Carolina on the scoresheet, both coming away with 3 points each, while Teuvo Teravainen tallied a pair of goals as well.
