The Phoenix Coyotes made a small splash in the quiet August by signing forward Joel Perrault to a new 2-year deal with financial terms not being disclosed. It brings the Coyotes one step closer to a full roster and just a little bit closer to that cap floor that everyone is talking about.
Perrault, 25, finished with 17 points in 49 games in Phoenix last season, which could add up to a pool mention or two in the coming year, if he can get a full-time ride with the big club. At last season's pace, he could very well put together a 28-point season in 82 games, which would have to be a deep pool result for him to be picked up.
The Coyotes now have 19 active skaters ready for next season, leaving only four spots for new signings or trades this summer. Perrault will likely have a contract similar to new teammate, Brian McGrattan, who will earn around $605,000. That will bring the team's salary cap hit a bit closer to $39 million.
