The Calgary Flames announced on Monday morning that forward Mike Cammalleri will be undergoing the league's protocol for concussions, after suffering a head injury in this weekend's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Cammalleri did not travel with the team to the Southeast USA, where they open a quick 2-game road trip in Carolina on Monday night.
Concussion protocol dictates that Cammalleri will miss at least this week, likely to be eligible to play again on Saturday, away to Vancouver for Hockey Day In Canada, at the earliest.
In 37 games played this season, Cammalleri has 13 goals and 8 assists for 21 points, ranking 203rd in pool scoring overall, well down from where expectations likely were, even with some lowered expectations for his team as a whole.
Well, it doesn't look like Leo will be dropping Cammalleri, opting to wait out this injury, in favour of dropping Cory Conacher on Monday in the first round of the Waiver Draft. If Cammalleri returns for Week Seventeen (or sooner), Leo likely won't miss out on many points, as Conacher hasn't been scoring at any sort of pace in Ottawa lately.
Leo enters Week Sixteen in 21st place, 27 points back of the top 20.
