Leafs Sign Stajan

In maybe one of the more rational decisions, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed centre Matt Stajan to a 2-year deal worth $3.5 million. Stajan finished the season with 33 points in all 82 games and could have some new linemates for 2009 to stimulate his production. If Sundin doesn't return to Toronto, Stajan could line-up with the likes of Jason Blake and/or Alex Ponikarovsky.

The Leafs, not counting their buyouts, have 19 players @ $45.6 million. A reasonable number for a team that is rebuilding. A deal for Sundin may make it all a little tighter, but staying in Toronto could be eased by his desire to take less money and stay.
