Rangers Sign Gilroy

It's a big day for the future of the NHL, as Hobey Baker winner for 2009, Matt Gilroy, signed with the New York Rangers today and it was a fairly big deal. The young defender, who also won the National Championship with Boston University, signed a 2-year deal, reportedly worth $3.5 million and it's also a one-way deal, meaning he's expected to be in the Rangers' line-up come opening night.

The Rangers may have some holes to fill on their blueline this summer, as Paul Mara and Derek Morris are both scheduled to be unrestricted free agents on July 1st and Gilroy could be the guy to step in and help the team out. You may want to put his name in pencil on your list of rookies to watch for in the Fall.
