Player Notes in the Draft (Oct 15)

The injury bug continues to have a firm grip on the Carolina Hurricanes, as there was another injury in their ranks. Defenseman Andrej Sekera went into the end boards behind his own net violently from the goal line and left the game with an undisclosed injury. It was pretty hard to tell what part of him hurt the most, but on the bright side, all the X-rays taken came back negative, so this should only be a day-to-day issue.

It hasn't been a great start to the second week for Wyllie, through Tuesday's action, as his team has dropped down a few places to 6th, but is still only 8 points out of 1st place, which isn't much at all.  Wyllie's defense has been impressive so far, leading the pool with 15 points, so he'll hope that Sekera isn't out long and they can continue to put points on the board.

It was a rough night for the Oilers in Los Angeles, as they took a sound beating, 6-1, on Tuesday night. In that game, already down 3-0, Edmonton's starter, Viktor Fasth, had to be taken out, not for the goals against, but for a groin injury.  There is no initial report on Wednesday morning about the severity of the injury, but he pulled himself out of the game last night, skating off on his own, so that would lead me to speculate that it isn't too bad.

Fasth has had about 80 minutes worth of work in the Edmonton net thus far in the season, which hasn't yielded any points for Stacey C. yet this season.  Stacey currently sits in 19th, now 15 points back of 1st place and he could use some more help from his goaltending, which means a quick return for his Swedish keeper.

A lower-body injury, believed to be in the ankle area, sidelined Tampa defenseman Radko Gudas for Tuesday's game against the Devils. Gudas' injury is believed to be a day-to-day situation, but there is no telling when he might return to the ice.

Gudas has yet to register a point in three appearances for the Bolts this season, which likely doesn't sit too well with Brenda, who picked him in the 14th round.  It was a low-risk pick, but that's where you're going to hit the home runs to win this pool.
