Hossa gets moved...
No, not Marian again, rather his younger brother Marcel. The Canadiens shipped Marcel Hossa to the New York Rangers for young winger, Garth Murray. With young talent coming up the ranks in Montreal, like Latendresse and Perezhogin, Hossa was losing his grip on a full-time job with the big club. GM Bob Gainey moved him to give him his big chance in the league and the Rangers are a team in need of some cost-effective help. I'm not saying that the Rangers are spending too much money anymore, but being cost-effective is now the way to go in the league with the cap and all.
So, poolies... what effect will this have this season?
Hossa should enter the Rangers depth chart on the third line, I would imagine. Not quite the hotbed of points, but with the speed and talent that he has, he can make a name for himself with players like Martin Straka or Martin Rucinsky as possible second linemates.
Will he play? I should imagine so. How many points? Somewhere between 30 and 40 points this season, unless he gets the pleasure of playing Jagr... which somehow seems unlikely. Will he make other players better? Probably not. Marcel Hossa is a deep pool player... that would be the best way to think about him.
