Colaiacovo Re-Ups for Three

With potential Restricted Free Agent, Carlo Colaiacovo signing a new deal for three years yesterday and the trade this morning, they're in pretty fair shape, much like the Flyers are, for the opening face-off in October. Colaiacovo, 24, is slowly becoming the dependable defenseman that the Maple Leafs envisioned him to be when they drafted him back in 2001. Although he isn't a big numbers kind of defenseman, it only looks like a matter of time before the reigns are handed to him to do something with his career in Toronto and with McCabe and Kaberle to learn from, he'll be learning from two key players who each play important roles with the club.

Should he be considered for my pool team, you ask? In a fairly deep draft, he should be. Colaiacovo put up 17 points in 48 games last season and if he can stay healthy, he has the capability to reach 30 points this coming season. 30 points is nothing to sneeze at... that would be the same number that Marek Zidlicky put up this season in Nashville.

Alexei Ponikarovsky Mats Sundin Darcy Tucker
Nikolai Antropov Kyle Wellwood Alex Steen
Jon Pohl Matt Stajan Chad Kilger
Mark Bell Boyd Devereaux Wade Belak

Tomas Kaberle Bryan McCabe
Ian White Pavel Kubina
Hal Gill Carlo Colaiacovo

Andrew Raycroft
Vesa Toskala

That would be the line-up of the Leafs if the season would start today... and they are ALL signed up for this coming season. Quite amazing really.

You have Ian White on the 2nd pairing, and Colaiacovo down on the 3rd. That is crazy.

You have Raycroft still as the starter, and Toskola as only the backup. That is crazy.

Well, it's only a quick article... and I'm not really the head coach. Besides... you can't polish a turd.
