Just as the Toronto Maple Leafs welcomed centre Tyler Bozak back to their line-up, one of their injury-prone players found their way back to the list, as Joffrey Lupul suffered a groin injury in their 6-0 loss to the Blue Jackets on Monday night.
On Tuesday morning, the Leafs announced that Lupul suffered a grade 2 groin strain, something very similar to what Jonathan Quick suffered earlier this season. There is no timetable for his return, but he is likely looking at close to a month on the shelf.
Lupul hasn't been playing out of his skin this season, scoring 8 goals and 7 assists in his first 22 games this year, ranking 117th in pool scoring after Monday night. He hasn't been up near the point-per-game total he has been scoring at for the past couple of seasons, which suggests to me that he may have been playing hurt for the last little while and he may have pushed it too far. Just a thought.
Just when things were beginning to look up for Stuart G. in the pool, the risky pick, which is Lupul, takes a turn for the worst and he'll be without his 4th round pick for the next little while.
Stuart will start Tuesday night in 22nd place, 5 points up on 23rd place.
