The Detroit Red Wings scratched forward Stephen Weiss on Saturday night, as the under-performing centre is reportedly dealing with a groin issue. The Red Wings are expecting to be without Weiss for about a week, 7-to-10 days, according to a report on Sunday morning, which isn't good news for the present, but this could be the sort of thing that regroups his game going forward. The free agent signing in the Summer has only picked up 2 goals and 1 assist in 17 games, he may need some kind of refresher to his game.
Not good news for Stuart G., who is one of the two last teams to reach triple digits in the standings this season. His team is on the brink of 100 points with five skater games to play on Sunday, but his team is not improving much yet this year.
The start on Long Island since the trade hasn't been too bad for Thomas Vanek, as he has been a productive member of his new team, but the start has come to bit of a halt, as the skilled winger was hurt on Saturday night against the Blue Jackets and he is now slated to sit on Sunday, as his new team plays Montreal. Vanek is currently listed as out day-to-day with an upper body injury, but that is the best report I've seen on Sunday morning. The Islanders will likely re-evaluate Vanek when they return home from this road trip.
A money concern, as Chris M. has Vanek this season, but he and his team has been faltering a little bit in Week Six, as the scoring has been going down. Chris currently sits in 4th place, the last prize spot, going into Sunday, 5 points up on 5th place, but won't have Vanek to help him out on Sunday.
An apparent leg injury was the cause of Radim Vrbata's absence from the Phoenix Coyotes line-up on Saturday night, as they took on the Washington Capitals. Vrbata's absence was noted before the game and there is plenty of speculation that he was injured on Wednesday night and was not healthy enough to go on Saturday. Vrbata is also considered to be out day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will likely be re-evaluated before they play again in Week Seven.
Even more bad news for Chris M., who has already lost Vanek in this post. On the plus side, Vrbata and the Coyotes are not scheduled to go on Sunday, so there isn't any more loss this week, but it remains unclear how much more time Vrbata will miss.
It was a busy Saturday for the Pittsburgh Penguins, dealing with the Injured Reserve list and dealing with another injury. The Penguins were able to welcome back a couple of big players in James Neal and Beau Bennett to their line-up on Saturday, while a couple of non-pool players were placed on the IR, Rob Scuderi and Chuck Kobasew. There was one more injury to speak of here as well, as defenseman Paul Martin was deemed unable to go on Saturday night against the St. Louis Blues, as he was dealing with an undisclosed injury. Martin is currently listed as day-to-day, so we can't speak more to the situation, but it is kind of a downer for the Penguins.
Neal belongs to Dale C., picked up a point in his return and knocked off the donut for the year. Dale welcomes him back, going into Sunday in 11th place. Bennett belongs to Scott G., who sits in 9th, but didn't pick up any points, but is likely happy to have a body back. Coming out was Martin, who belongs to Wilton in the draft, who goes into Sunday in 12th place and will likely hear more about the injury on Monday.
