The Calgary Flames were at it again, as the education of Sven Baertschi needed another press box lesson, as the young Swiss forward took another seat upstairs and watched the game between the Flames and Kings in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Baertschi's two-way game has been the subject of much disapproval from the Calgary brass this year, but something seemed to work last night, as they took down their division rivals from California, 2-1.
I don't think Wyllie foresaw how many times Baertschi was going to be scratched this season, but being a fan of the kid likely makes the scratches much harder for him in the pool, as he wants him to succeed, both for team and pool. Wyllie isn't in bad shape this year, sitting 15th after Saturday (unofficially), now 30 points out of the prizes.
The defenseman rotation in Toronto continued on Saturday, as the Maple Leafs took on the Canadiens in Montreal, but this rotation was due more to injury than a healthy scratch, like it was earlier in the week. Cody Franson was the defender coming out of the line-up on the weekend, as both Jake Gardiner and Morgan Rielly dressed. Franson is listed as out day-to-day with a lower-body injury and that seems to be the most I can find about the injury this morning. I would be looking for a further update before their next game, Tuesday, home to San Jose.
It was a lost skater game for Mike S., who sits down in 19th place. It hasn't been a great week for his team, as they have only collected 19 points through Saturday's action and only have one projected game left for his side on Sunday. The loss of Franson is significant, as Mike's defense is one of his strong points this season, making up for over 30% of his team's scoring.
