I was hoping that there would be a few more key signings this week before I posted anything, but I won't let this signing go unmentioned in the week. There was a Columbus signing that was somewhat imminent, but didn't happen in the end. One signing it will be then...
On Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs came to terms with their top pick in this Summer's draft, Swedish forward William Nylander. Nylander was one of the top-ranked European players in the class, thanks to some exceptional offensive talent, according to most of the scouts. I had Nylander falling down a few more picks in my mock draft, but I don't think that was because of his overall skill, maybe more so the fit. The Leafs do have a need for some quality offensive talent, especially to bolster the top six, but I would have to imagine that Nylander may still be a year or two away from being ready to jump into Randy Carlyle's system.
