Rangers Force Another, How Many More Can the Flames Force?
The Washington Capitals had what they wanted in Game 5, a lead late in the 3rd period, as they tried to eliminate the New York Rangers, thanks to a Curtis Glencross marker, midway through the final frame.
With less than two minutes to go in regulation, Chris Kreider potted home the tying goal, which sent the game to overtime.
In the extra frame, Ryan McDonagh walked into a tee'd up shot over the blueline and rifled home the overtime winner, sending this series back to Washington, D.C., but there is still lots of work to be done.
McDonagh, Derek Stepan and Henrik Lundqvist were your notable players, as the Rangers won the game, 2-1. Lundqvist made 28 saves in regulation and overtime to keep his team in it and help to force a Game 6.
That Game 6 will go on Sunday evening, at the Verizon Center, as the Capitals will get a shot to put the Rangers away at home.
The home crowd for the Calgary Flames had their team pumped right up again on Friday night, because despite going down a goal early on to the Anaheim Ducks, the Flames stuck to their guns and potted two quick ones within two minutes of the opening goal and the team had a 2-1 lead heading into the 1st intermission.
The Ducks hung around and tied the game up in the 2nd period, thanks to an Andrew Cogliano marker, which sent the game to the break with a 2-2 deadlocked tie. Still, the crowd was buzzing.
Just over a minute into the 3rd period, Anaheim wasn't going to let the mistakes of Game 3 happen again, as Matt Beleskey scored to make it a 3-2 game and then it was on lockdown for the remainder of regulation. An empty-netter settled the game, a 4-2 final for the Ducks and now they will head home, back to Anaheim, with a 3-1 series lead and now the Flames are behind the 8-ball.
For the pool, Beleskey, Jakob Silfverberg and Frederik Andersen were the big names for Anaheim, each picking up 2 points for their pool teams, while the Flames didn't sport any player for this blog post.
It will be a late start on Sunday night for Game 5 in Anaheim, an 8pm MT start, as the Ducks try to move on to face the Blackhawks.
