Recent Contract Extensions (Aug 4)

Well, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Anaheim Ducks were interested in getting their number one goalie, John Gibson, locked down to a contract extension, as the 25-year old was entering the last year of his current deal, but the real surprise came down to the length and the value of the deal, as the Ducks went for the maximum 8-year commitment, giving him a $6.4 million cap hit per season, definitely among the league's best, when it goes live in the 2020 season.

Last season, Gibson was the 9th ranked goalie in hockey pool scoring, winning 31 games and posting 71 points in 60 regular season appearances.  He's certainly made a name for himself in the Anaheim crease and has been fairly consistent in his time there and now the Ducks will need that consistency to continue for the long-term, since he's locked in for quite a while now.
