Souray Suffers Concussion

The Oilers will be without defenseman Sheldon Souray for at least a week after suffering a mild concussion in the game against Calgary on Thursday night. Souray was put into the boards heavily after tripping on Jarome Iginla's stick and then having the Flames forward pile on top of him after impact.

Since the word concussion is used in describing the injury, it could be a little while before Souray is ready to return to regular game action, but it is definitely at least a week on the shelf and likely a trip onto the Injured Reserve.

Souray now joins Andrei Markov on the list of top end defenders on the shelf. Souray, taken by Allan in the Draft, will be missed on the Oilers power play and in many fantasy teams. He wasn't the most popular player in the first defenseman box of the Western Conference, but I do believe he was taken a couple of times, so that will be a big loss as well.

Sit him, scratch him, but don't drop him quite yet. There's still time for you to decide whether or not he'll be coming back in a reasonable time.
