A straight-up defenseman deal goes down during the free agent frenzy and it is a pretty interesting deal.  The Oilers pack up Kurtis Foster, a puck-moving defenseman, to Anaheim and in exchange, the Ducks send veteran stay-at-home defenseman Andy Sutton.

With Foster on their side, the Ducks add a little bit more offensive pop to their blueline, something that they already had plenty of going into this off-season.  Foster may have to tone down his offensive capabilities, depending on who he is paired up with, as there are a few new teammates who like to take the puck on rushes up the ice.

As for Sutton joining the Oilers, he will be needed for his veteran presence and his stay-at-home game, trying to make their own zone tougher for the opposition to play in.  Sutton isn't one of the fastest guys on the ice, but his big frame will pack a wallop when an opposition forward gets caught with him along the boards.  A bit more responsibility in their own end is a solid move for the Oilers.
