Gibson to the IR, Andersen Day-to-Day

Sunday's whirlwind of excitement for the Anaheim goaltending was something else, as the team could only rock minor league goalie Jason LaBarbera for their game against the Avalanche, as goaltending consultant, Dwayne Roloson dressed, but couldn't be on the bench, due to league CBA rules.  Both regular goalies, Fredrik Andersen and John Gibson were hurt leading up to the game, Andersen being hurt early enough to call up LaBarbera, where Gibson was hurt during warm-ups, which forced the AHL keeper to start.

On Tuesday, the team practiced again and Andersen was able to take to the ice, but he is still listed as day-to-day with a leg injury, stiffness in his muscles.  The team also called up Igor Bobkov from the AHL, as they placed Gibson on the Injured Reserve, expecting him to miss the next six weeks with a groin injury.

The Ducks don't play until Wednesday night, when they host the Islanders, so they have an extra night of rest and recovery to see if Andersen can go, but they are prepared to go with LaBarbera and Bobkov, if he can't.

We'll talk Gibson specifically now, since his injury is considered to be more long-term.  The young American keeper only has 6 points, 2 wins and a shutout, in the early part of the regular season, having seen Andersen take most of the reps.  He hadn't exactly put himself in front of Andersen in the starting goalie conversation, but wasn't doing too badly in relief.

This will effectively remove more games from Ryan's projected totals, as his team already suffers with injury to the blueline and his other keeper is not seeing much time in Carolina.  So much promise and so much hope, being washed away by some more unlucky events.

At the time of this post, Ryan sits in 19th place, 24 points out of the money, 15 points out of the top 10.  Surely, some of his forwards can step up, finally, and score at the pace that he expected them to, just to try and dig him out of this hole.
