There's a part of me that thinks this was the last kick at the can for Michael Dal Colle in an Islanders uniform at this year's training camp, a make it or break it, if you will. On Sunday, he was part of a big group that was demoted down to the AHL, thus ending his opening night dream early. The 2014 5th overall pick has failed to emerge as the potential player his draft ranking assigned to him and now his future with the franchise has to be in question.
I don't think there was very much doubt before, but the goaltending did seem to be quite set on Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss getting the split in net, which has allowed Kristers Gudlevskis to be placed on waivers for a demotion, if he clears on Monday. His is a name that could find its way to another team to compete for a spot.
