Only one standings move from last night's play... Sherpa's Yaks moved into a tie for fourth again, jumping over Corndogs Rejects.
One in the second, two in the third and the winner in overtime... Joffrey Lupul was a goal scoring machine for the Ducks in Game 3, scoring all 4 of the Mighty Ducks' goals in a 4-3 win over the Avalanche. Did anyone take Lupul in the pool?? Anyone?? Why, yes... one team did... the Wilson St. Samsquanchs! It certainly wasn't enough for them to jump into the Top 10, but it jumped them up about 6 or 7 spots in the standings last night.
The Halos came away with two points as Vitaly Vishnevski and Sean O'Donnell each recorded assists for the Ducks. Those being the only other two players in the pool that impacted the standings for the Ducks.
For the Avalanche, it looked like they were gonna remain in the series for quite a while... after Dan Hinote scored to snap the shutout streak, but they just couldn't seem to do enough. For pool-counting points, Rob Blake had a goal, Andrew Brunette, Milan Hejduk, Brett Clark, Alex Tanguay and Joe Sakic all had assists.
The Ducks will look to sweep the series up on Thursday night on TSN. It's an 8pm start from Colorado.
TONIGHT'S GAMES
No team in the Top 10 in enjoying the success of the Buffalo Sabres than Fourn-Y-A. Ryan Miller's 14 points, Chris Drury's 10 points and Brian Campbell's 3 points are all contributing to each team's success. Fourn-Y-A is one of three pool teams to take Miller, but the only one in the Top 10. Another Buffalo win could mean another jump in the Standings. The Halos on the other hand, are the only team in the Top 10 to have Daniel Briere and his 12 points. For anyone to catch up to the Halos, there will have to be a lot of teams banking on the players they don't have... like, Jason Spezza, Peter Schaefer, Daniel Alfredsson, J.P. Dumont, Ales Kotalik or Jochen Hecht.
This is a crucial game for the Sens, since they are down 2-0 to the Sabres. Buffalo can take a stranglehold with a win tonight. CBC, 5pm.
The straw to break the leader's back would be if Carolina was to defeat the Devils this season. Keeping Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner off the scoresheet and Martin Brodeur away from the win column would allow some teams to reach out and catch the Halos before the end of the playoffs. 7 of the Top 10 teams have Brodeur picked... 2 of the 3 that don't have Brodeur, sadly have Martin Gerber, as a twist.
5 of the 9 teams chasing the Halos have Eric Staal as their number one Left Winger in the East. A good way to gain some ground on the Halos would be for him to have a big night. 4 of the 9 have Cory Stillman, who's had a big playoff run thus far... so, catching the Halos is possible... the odds get a bit better if the 'Canes were to beat New Jersey.
The Devils will look claim a game back at home tonight... in a more friendly atmosphere. TSN, 5pm.
You want to know why you're not catching the Halos when Patrick Marleau scores big goals and the Joe Thornton combination withe Jonathon Cheechoo lights the lamp?? 'Cuz the Halos have 'em all too. If you've taken Oilers in the pool and want to catch the Halos, then that's the best way tonight you're gonna do it.
Sherpa's Yaks have Sergei Samsonov, Dewhirst Destroyers have Dwayne Roloson, Jaroslav Spacek & Ryan Smyth, and Team Slim Shady have Chris Pronger & Radek Dvorak (injury pending). Those are the only 3 teams in the pool that can have a big night to catch the Halos if the Oilers win big. Otherwise... yikes!
