The weekend has passed and there were another couple teams on Sunday that didn't make it through. The elimination of teams is where this pool is going to get interesting. There are six pool teams still with 20 players active on their roster, with still four series' still to be decided. Unfortunately, for Little Joe Riders, they have been decimated through the pool with only 13 players left playing, with still those four series' yet to be decided.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com I don't know how many people saw this series coming to an abrupt end, but it's happened. Jose Theodore going to Colorado is beginning to look like a steal of a deal for the Avalanche, as he recorded the series clinching fourth win on Sunday. Andrew Brunette is having a whale of a playoffs so far, recording a three point night, the game-winning goal and an assist, which brings his total for the playoffs up to 8 points. Joe Sakic had a goal and an assist as well for the Avalanche, the only other multi-point player on the day.

Dallas leaves the playoffs as a shock upset. There were a lot of teams in the pool banking on the Stars to go somewhere in the playoffs, but fell terribly short. There was a total of 78 Dallas Star selections in the pool... all gone to the wayside. In Game 5, the Stars didn't register any multi-point players at all and only came up with a combined 31 points in the series between all pool players.

Players with points that were eliminated:
Brendan Morrow, 1G 5A
Sergei Zubov, 1G 5A
Jere Lehtinen, 3G 1A
Mike Modano, 1G 3A
Jussi Jokinen, 2G 1A
Jason Arnott, 3A
Marty Turco, 1W
Janne Niinimaa, 1A
Niko Kapanen, 1A
Phillipe Boucher, 1A

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com The Sharks were hot, hot, hot going into the playoffs and they continued to roll eliminating the Nashville Predators in 5 games. Vesa Toskala has been relied upon to be the Sharks' number one goalie in the playoffs and he's not proving the coaching staff wrong. Toskala had all four wins, including a shutout, through the series to advance the Sharks into the next round. Patrick Marleau scored the winning goal, his 7th of the playoffs, and Joe Thornton, Scott Hannan & Tom Preissing all had pool-counting assists in the clinching game as well.

The Predators, despite their grinding and good defensive system, could not stop the red-hot Sharks in 4 games. Chris Mason couldn't withstand the onslaught put upon him and the scoring for the Predators fell short most nights. There was a total of 29 Nashville Predator selections lost with their elimination, Danny Markov being on 10 selection sheets.

Players with points that were eliminated:
Paul Kariya, 2G 5A
Kimmo Timonen, 1G 3A
Mike Sillinger, 2G 1A
Martin Erat, 1G 1A
Chris Mason, 1W
Dan Hamhuis, 2A
Steve Sullivan, 2A
David Legwand, 1A
Marek Zidlicky, 1A

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com A hard fought contest with great goaltending finally went to the home team in this series, as the Carolina Hurricanes held on to beat the Canadiens 2-1 to take a 3-2 series lead. Cam Ward has taken the starting role for the Canes and just run with it, winning 3 in a row and taking command of the playoff series. Ward made 30 saves, some spectacular, making everyone who took Martin Gerber shake their heads in disbelief. No bonus point in this game as Matt Cullen scored the eventual winner, but Eric Staal had a goal, Cory Stillman, Doug Weight and Frantisek Kaberle all had assists for the Hurricanes.

Only Alexei Kovalev could break the shutout, with a late goal in the second period, with Sheldon Souray getting the only assist on the goal.

The series shifts back to Montreal on Tuesday where the Canes can eliminate the Habs from the playoffs.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comImage hosted by Photobucket.com Ryan Miller shut the Flyers out on Sunday with 24 saves as the Sabres have taken a 3-2 lead in that series. Miller, chosen over Martin Biron in the playoffs now has recorded 8 points so far in the pool. J.P. Dumont had a goal and an assist and Daniel Briere had 2 assists to be the only Sabres with multi-point games in the pool. Tim Connolly scored the winner and added an assist, but sadly wasn't on the selection sheet for the pool.

For the Flyers, they will look to rebound in Game 6 as the series goes back to the Wachovia Center in Philly on Tuesday night. That game will be on TSN if you don't care to watch Carolina/Montreal on CBC at 5pm.

Tonight's games see the Alberta teams in action. NHL.com doesn't seem to know who's playing when, but Edmonton is at home tonight, while Calgary is in Anaheim. There is a good chance that the coverage will be split in Alberta.
