It came over the wire this afternoon, Box 4 defenseman, Chris Pronger will sit out the crucial Game 4 between the Ducks and the Red Wings that goes tomorrow night for his head shot to Tomas Holmstrom last night. Pronger had a disciplinary meeting with the NHL brass and it was announced that he will only miss the one game, which will be in Anaheim... and the Ducks need to win the game to stave off falling behind 3-1 in the series. The Ducks can't afford to go back to the Detroit being down two games, but I'm sure there will be some fans would be appreciative that the series would end early, that way we can have the Finals starting earlier and that we can get into the full swing of summer.
As for a pool impact, 20 teams will miss the big defenseman, including 1st place Derek, who won't have one of his top defensemen against Benson, who could sneak back up the ranks with a few extra points from his Red Wings. Pronger has been good for almost a point a game, but the gaping hole he'll leave on the blueline should open up the flood gates a bit for guys like Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. To fill the hole, look for a guy like Francois Beauchemin to get more minutes, which again plays into Benson's hands. Third place, Dan, will also be without Pronger, but does have teammate Scott Niedermayer, who will pick up a few extra minutes as well.
