Sabres Are Still Kickin'

Alright everybody, put the brooms away... the Sabres aren't gonna be swept this year. With their backs up against the wall, Buffalo stayed the course and will get another chance to make it right back home in the HSBC Arena. I'm sure there is a fair few of you who were disappointed with the result... and I'll admit, I was one of them... but Benson quite enjoyed the result, as it vaulted him back into first place last night. He got points with Ryan Miller's win and assists from Daniel Briere and Joe Corvo, for a four point night. With the Senators' top line held pointless last night, Derek fell down to third place.

It was a big night for Chris Drury, as he hops into the Spotlight this morning. Drury, who leads all Buffalo skaters in points in these playoffs, had the game-winner and an assist for his three points and it gave his four owners in the pool something to cheer about... as he's now up to 16 points. The top team in the pool with Drury is Dennis, down in 18th position. So, it's safe to say, Drury isn't really an "impact" player in the pool at this point in the season. Really, if you chose Drury over Briere, you'd have only gained 2 points on your rivals.

Game 4 in Anaheim goes on tonight... be sure to tune into CBC to catch the game, not TSN. The Red Wings will try to take advantage of the fact that there will be no Chris Pronger in the line-up. We'll see how watertight the Ducks defense will be without the big guy in the back...

In non-playoff news...
I just wanted to make mention for those looking forward to next season... Jonathon Toews signed with the Blackhawks yesterday and will join the team in September when camp opens up. With his play at the World Juniors and the World Championships (both golden), he will be a hot commodity when the drafts and the pools start up. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

And if I'm gonna do Toews, I might as well mention that Nicklas Backstrom, not the Wild goaltender, but the Swedish centre taken in last year's draft by the Capitals, signed with his NHL club yesterday as well. There's a bundle of hype surrounding Backstrom coming into next season, as the perfect compliment to play with Alexander Ovechkin. You may want to mark these names down for the fall, so you don't forget.
