The Anaheim Ducks cleared up the last bit of restricted free agent business on Friday, as they announced the signing of forward Carl Hagelin, who they acquired from the New York Rangers earlier in the Summer, giving him a 4-year deal, worth $16 million.
The speedy forward was a cap casualty in the Big Apple, as he was looking for a sizable deal, like this $4 million per season agreement, something the Rangers couldn't afford this season, as they're snuggled right up to the cap ceiling.
Last season with the Rangers, Hagelin was a contributing member of the team, picking up 17 goals and 35 points in all 82 games, which ranked him 225th overall in pool scoring, 155th among all forwards.
Hagelin was a very consistent player for the Rangers, both in the regular season and the playoffs and was a key contributor on the penalty kill as well.
With the Ducks, he'll be in somewhat of the same role, as he was with the Rangers and that should net him around the same amount of points, in the 35-point range. Anaheim will definitely benefit from his speed and should give this team a good lift, not like they need it, as they were a very hard & fast team to play against last year.
The only way that Hagelin sees any gains this year is if he gets a boost in the depth chart and a little bit more ice-time. You would imagine that he will come into camp as a 3rd line winger, but you just never know who he is going to mesh with. If all goes well, he could be a reasonable sleeper in the hockey pools.
