Fringe Signings (Sep 13)

After the deal that saw Kris Versteeg head to the Carolina Hurricanes, the Chicago Blackhawks finished up their last little bit of business, signing forward Marcus Kruger to a new 1-year deal, reportedly worth $1.5 million.

Kruger is definitely more of the defensive type of player, but he does carry some offensive upside, scoring 7 goals and 17 points in 81 games last season.

In my early season projections, I have some improvement coming with Kruger, jumping up to the 20-point mark, which isn't quite pool worthy, but the Hockey News seems to think that he will be in the 27-point range, which is arguably good enough to be taken this year.
