On Thursday, the Devils finished off their 20-man side with the signing of defenseman Paul Martin. The 26 year-old Martin signed a 3-year deal worth $11 million deal, $3 million this season, and will polish off the blueline for the coming year. The Devils had more than enough room to sign on Martin and he should be either the number two guy on the blueline or even turn out to be the big dog out there. His 3 goals and 26 points were still considered to be on the learning curve a bit, but once he's really comfortable with his role, he should have a good increase in points in the coming season. He may want to be bumped up a bit in the pool rankings come September.
Patrik Elias | Dainius Zubrus | Zach Parise |
Jamie Langenbrunner | Brian Gionta | Tomas Zajac |
Jay Pandolfo | John Madden | Sergei Brylin |
Cam Janssen | Mike Rupp | David Clarkson |
Karel Rachunek | Paul Martin |
Vitali Vishnevski | Colin White |
Andy Greene | Richard Matvichuk |
Martin Brodeur |
Kevin Weekes |
At the present time, this should be the opening night line-up for the Devils, barring any major surprises. It will run the club in excess of $46 million against the cap, which leaves plenty of room for any other acquisitions deemed necessary through the year.
