The Colorado Avalanche have announced that Calvin Pickard will get the call tonight against the Kings, after being called up to the big club on Monday, due to a suspected groin issue for the team's number one goalie, Semyon Varlamov. Varlamov is considered to be out on a day-to-day basis, but there has been no indication about how long he could be on the shelf. If he was put on the Injured Reserve, it would have given us a better idea, but for now, he could be back as early as Thursday's game, home to the Devils.
Benson is sniffing around the top 10 now, only 1 point out in 11th place, and is currently in 2nd place in the third segment standings, which most of the kudos for those accomplishment lie with his goaltending, which has taken a hit today. If Varlamov is out for any extended period of time, it could be trouble.
