Coyotes' Schmaltz to the IR

On Thursday, the Arizona Coyotes placed forward Nick Schmaltz on the Injured Reserve, retroactive to last weekend, with his lower-body injury.

Unfortunately, there still isn't a lot of information disclosed about his injury, but there is some suggestion out there by some media people that this injury could keep the scoring forward out a while.  The team didn't formally announce when the placement was retroactive to, which also suggests that the minimum of a week on the IR won't be an issue.

The 22-year old has been good for the Coyotes, since being acquired in a trade with Chicago, back in November, picking up 14 points in 17 games.  His totals are now up to 25 points in 40 games, which was good enough for 138th overall, before play got started today.

Schmaltz was turning out to be a very good bargain pick for Ryan's team, taking him 212th in the draft, down in the 9th round, one of a few good picks for him, which has led his team up to 9th place int he standings.  His team is 36 points out of the money today and there are fears that without Schmaltz, that gap could widen.
