Eichel Ruled Out of Weekend

The Buffalo Sabres are erring on the side of caution with their franchise forward Jack Eichel, who suffered an upper-body injury early in the week against the Islanders, opting to sit the team captain for the team's next two games to heal up and get closer to 100%.

The team's coaching staff did say it is a day-to-day injury, not specifying what kind of injury it is, but they are encouraged that he wouldn't be out of their lineup for very long.  Nevertheless, two games is two games and there is no certainly that those are the only games that he'll miss.

Eichel has been damn good this year, ranking 16th in pool scoring, heading into today's action, with 15 goals and 49 points in 40 games with the Sabres, so it's a lot of offense that is coming out of their lineup for games against the Panthers tonight and Bruins on Saturday.

Grant's team has taken a good kicking in the last few days and losing his second-best player will certainly provide a sting that is hard to recover from.  With play already having started on Thursday, he sits 4 points clear of Stuart's team, at the time of this post, atop of the standings, but lost a goalie start today and possibly another healthy scratch yet to come.  Staying on top will be quite the task this week, but his team is qualified for it.
