Holtby Pushes Caps Past Rangers

Only one game on Monday night, which led to only one goal, which had only one counting assist, but the win was a shutout win, so there was something that counted in the pool last night.

The Washington Capitals took a 2-1 series lead with their 1-0 Game 3 victory, thanks to a solid effort from Caps goalie Braden Holtby, who had 30 saves in the game to earn his first shutout of these playoffs.  Jay Beagle, a non-pool forward, scored the only goal on a fortunate bounce on a wraparound, which was assisted by non-pool forward Andre Burakovsky and pool forward Troy Brouwer.

With the Capitals actually being able to shut down the Rangers speed, their offense dried up and the shot quality that Holtby had to stop was decreased considerably, leading to a pretty reasonable shutout win.

How will the Rangers respond to this challenge?

Only four teams in the pool picked up points on Monday night, as Clayton picked up the 4 points from Holtby and his team moved up to 8th place, 6 points out of the money, while Whaycon, Kristy & Amy and Dorthea all have Brouwer, each earning a point each.  Unfortunately, Dorthea is tops out of those three teams, sitting in 26th place, even after that single point.

Sairosh continues to lead with 132 points, followed by Jesse with 130 points and Fontanna is at 129 points.  Those are your money leaders, no change from Sunday night.

Tony D. is at 126, Sean L. is at 125, followed closely again by Stacey M. and Grant S., both at 124.  It's a pretty good race and with some of these results, the race remains really close.
