Devils and Wood Come to Terms

He might not be a household name, but Miles Wood was a hockey pool worthy forward last season with his 32 points in 76 games with the Devils, but there he was, starting training camp and the preseason without a new contract.  With a week and a half before the start of the regular season, the Devils and Wood came to terms on a new 4-year deal on Saturday afternoon, a deal that will pay him $2.75 million per season and a deal that will make him an arbitration eligible restricted free agent at the end of it.

Wood came out of nowhere to start putting up some points with the upstarting Devils and was a pretty good contributor to their immediate success last season.  Now, the question will be whether or not he will be able to either replicate that sort of scoring touch or possibly even improve upon it.  The New Jersey Devils will be a team that others may take a little more seriously and it could be much more difficult for them to make the playoffs again this season.

Currently, I have Wood hovering around the same plateau of about 30 points for the coming season in my projections.  I'm not ready to buy in 100% to say that he will improve on those numbers just yet, he'll have to show us all something in the early part of the season.  He might be better suited as a Waiver Draft pick, unless you're feeling what he brings to the table.
