Morning Training Camp Notes (Sep 14)

Thought to be more of a fringe hockey pool player, Jean-Gabriel Pageau was going to be looked towards to be one of the leaders of the Senators after the trade of Erik Karlsson out of town, but that isn't going to be this season. The 25-year old has suffered a torn Achilles in training and he will be sidelined for at least six months, which would land him a possible return into the middle of March.

Pageau finished last season with 29 points in 78 games, just outside of the pool worthy conversation, but he was going to be looked towards for more responsibility in the rebuilding phase of this team.  However, his injury will now open the door for another young player to come up and now Brady Tkachuk moves up into his spot on my projected roster and assuming most of his 35-point projection.

Not much for good news this morning, as the Florida Panthers have announced that forward Jamie McGinn is now sidelined indefinitely after undergoing back surgery.  McGinn was a fringe player last season as well, 29 points in 76 games and was considered to be a fringe player, if we have another 25-team draft this year, so he could have played a role either at the draft or in the Waiver Draft, but that may not be the case.  It hasn't been determined how long the 30-year old veteran will be out, but it could be a while.

This could be the break that a kid like Owen Tippett could use to his advantage and make the roster this year.  Tippett had a 9-game audition last season and was awfully close to sticking around, but it was deemed he needed another year in junior.  He could be the guy that gets the nod this year.
