Morning Player Notes (Mar 12)

The flu bug was pretty active on Monday night, biting Columbus Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner and holding him out of the lineup against the the Islanders, a game they would have liked to have won to help their playoff cause, but instead dropped, 2-0.  Jenner has been a pretty good spark plug at times for the team, potting 12 goals and 31 points in 64 games this season, ranking him 235th in pool scoring, which isn't bad for a bottom six guy in the league.

Steve has done well with his final pick in the draft, taking Jenner with the 338th overall selection, turning him into quite the bargain pick.  Not everyone is going to find a diamond down there, but if you can find a shiny quarter in a pile of pennies, that's not too bad.

Early in the day on Monday, the Ottawa Senators had recalled forward Filip Chlapik from the AHL, but the reason behind it wasn't found out until the pregame skate, when rookie forward Colin White wasn't on the ice and was then ruled out of the game against the Flyers, the team citing an upper-body injury.  White is currently listed as day-to-day with the injury, there wasn't much mention of anything long-term or anything of any more context on the injury, so who knows?

This didn't hurt Derek B.'s rookie scoring totals at all, since his team was still able to pull together 4 points in the rookie scoring race, which also staved off Scott's team from overtaking him in the overall race this week, for now.

Kasperi Kapanen was a late scratch for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night for their tangle against the Lightning, due to feeling under the weather. He's currently day-to-day, but it was arguable that he would have even helped all that much, cowering under the foot of a strong Tampa team.  He's currently listed as out day-to-day and will likely be on the probable side of the ledger, when they prepare to face the Blackhawks on Wednesday night.

Chelsea's team was one of five teams on Monday night that failed to pick up a point and maybe, just maybe, Kapanen could have helped soften the blow with a point in the loss, but that's just speculation the day after.  Her team fell to 23rd in the standings without any points, but still holds the most projected games left this week, so plenty of time to recover.
