Well, just in case you were wondering who you were going to get in the Waiver Draft, let me fill you in on who's more than likely not going to be available right away. The first few picks are going to be quite obvious, as the big point players are going to as soon as possible. Especially, the goalies.
Pascal Leclaire comes into the Waiver Draft as the number one available prospect for your team. The Blue Jackets have been the big surprise team of the season and Leclaire has chalked up 31 points in the first eight-plus weeks this season.
But Leclaire does have an err of uncertainty to him. That's where the number two ranked player comes into the fold. Chris Osgood is also available and looks to have the starting job in Detroit, since Dominik Hasek (John B.) has failed to nail down wins. It's going to be one or the other going first the waiver draft.
The top forward going into Week Ten is Matt Cullen of the Hurricanes. If you haven't noticed, the Hurricanes have put up some serious points in the league and Cullen has been just as productive as some of the superstars. His projeccted spot in the draft will be second.
Do you ever wonder why they gave Brendan Morrow the 'C' in Dallas? Well, his production is a good reason why. Believe it or not, Morrow has 22 points so far this season and should join the pool at a pretty high pick. I know a lot of you know Morrow, so he shouldn't be shyed away from in the Waiver Draft.
It's a new name as the top rated defenseman for the Waiver Draft. Tobias Enstrom has got a prime seat on the gravy train there in Atlanta. The scoring is up in Georgia and someone has to get the assists. Enstrom should go pretty high, as there are a couple teams who may think they only need some defenders.
With one more goal than his nearest positional competitor, Chris Campoli would be rated the next best defender available. Campoli has been used in a lot of top situations for the Islanders and has taken advantage of it.
The defense corps of the NHL have changed greatly this season. There's got to be a level of preparation to take some new names. It's kind of like a youth revolution on the blueline, so to speak.
