It appears that Brendan Shanahan is coming back to the swamp for yet another season. The 40-year old veteran has reportedly signed a 1-year deal (no financial terms released) with the Devils to come back for one more year, this coming after only a partial year, where Shanahan signed in January to re-join his first NHL club.
After signing his deal in January, Shanahan played in 34 regular season games for the Devils, scoring 6 goals and 8 assists.
He will be counted upon more to bring leadership than to produce offensively. There was no word about his training regiment in the summer, which would give you the best suggestion about what kind of ice-time the veteran would get, but since the Devils are stocked up on firepower, I wouldn't think he'd see too much time on the first two scoring lines.
