The Rangers have decided to walk away from the arbitration award given to Nikolai Zherdev after his hearing last week, as both sides decided the only way to get resolution from negotiations was arbitration. The arbitrator awarded Zherdev with a $3.9 million deal for one season, which was apparently too rich for the blood in the Big Apple. Zherdev will now become an unrestricted free agent, free to sign wherever he likes for a negotiated price.
