When I was reading about Marc-Edouard Vlasic's injury yesterday, it didn't sound very serious, but the San Jose Sharks are suggesting otherwise, as they have placed the veteran blueliner on the Injured Reserve, opening up a spot in the lineup for Mirco Mueller, who was called up to take his spot on Monday.
Vlasic took a puck in the mouth on December 30th, against the Flyers, missing out on the New Year's Eve game against the Kings, and it looks like he'll miss a bit more time, as he won't be eligible to return until Saturday night's game, home to Detroit on the 7th.
The 29-year old has only posted 3 goals and 9 points in 35 games this season, which is well down from some of his projections and expectations, as we near the midway point of the season. As of Monday morning, he was ranked 404th in pool scoring, 86th among all defensemen.
For Grant, he could use a silver lining to his regular season, but all of these injuries are not helping his cause. His team opens up Week Thirteen in 19th, 42 points out of the money. Vlasic wasn't going to make up those points, but even with a poor scoring rate, a point here and there or somewhat far between, would only help his cause. There's no word on when Grant can expect him back.
