As mentioned in the three-way deal below, the Flames sent Alex Tanguay to the Montreal Canadiens and a pick for Montreal's first round pick and a second rounder next year. This deal was rumoured to happen long before the trade deadline, as it becomes more of a salary dump for the Flames. As for Tanguay, he gets to go home to Montreal and join a smaller, faster team in the Eastern Conference, which could increase his stock for the coming season for all you hockey poolies.

The lack of surprise about this deal is the news story at the end of the day. The Flames have opened up a couple more million in their pockets, which does make them a little more dangerous, when it comes to July 1st. They still want to lock up a few more players, but a tweak or two, including Cammalleri, will be right up their alley. This should be a good move for both teams, if that's who you prefer picking from in your pools.
