Kings Have Roster Set

The Kings sent down four players from their active roster, including three former first rounders. 2007's Jonathan Bernier and 2008's Thomas Hickey were sent down to Manchester with Kevin Westgarth, while 2009's Brayden Schenn was sent back to juniors for one more year of development. Bernier is the closest one of the three to cracking the Kings line-up and with the possibility of injuries this year, he has a shot of coming back up and starting with the big club soon.

The roster will be led by, in part, by Jarret Stoll (pictured), Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar, Ryan Smyth and Alex Frolov up front. It doesn't look like the most dominant set of forwards in the Western Conference, but they should be able to put a good number of pucks in the net.

Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson should anchor a good defense corps, which is not only responsible and powerful along the boards, but those two should be able to provide some offense from the back end as well.

Salary CapThe 23-man roster is also very young, much like a couple of the other teams we had a look at today. Saying that, the roster is at a very reasonable cap rate going into the year at an approximate value of $50.3 million. The Kings are not quite projected to be a playoff team, so they will likely sit down as more of a budget team through the year. If the Kings somehow play above their ability, they could be in the playoff race and then they'll want to upgrade at most positions.

The goaltending will be a big question mark for the Kings and may not be the safest of fantasy bets. Jonathan Quick should have the edge between the two goalies on the roster for the number one job and should be your first pick, if you had to choose a Kings goalie for your team at the draft. There is no real guarantee how many wins that Quick or Erik Ersberg will get this year, so choose wisely.
